A portrait studio owner for more than thirty years, I am a Fine Art Photographic Artist. Specializing in artistic portrait design and photo restoration, my vast experience in portrait enhancement, new product development and innovative marketing techniques continually expand my imagination, helping me to think outside the box. My creativity exploded in the early days of the digital revolution, and has continued to expand thanks to educational, networking, mentoring and volunteer opportunities I’ve taken advantage of thru my PPC membership. I thrive on technology and continuously strive to improve the quality of my craft. Our family of PPC members inspire and encourage me, and I’m both thankful and proud to be part of such a vital organization.

Awards include Fellowship Degree (F-PPC), Service Award (S-PPC), 2007 Top Ten Photographer, President’s Award and the Barry Evans-Elmer Kingham Service Award. I’ve been an Early Bird Speaker at Conference, served as Digital Cafe Chair for Pro Photo Expo, Conference Committee Member, WCS Model Coordinator and currently serve as Membership Chair. I’ve returned as Editor of Pro Photo West magazine for which I was awarded 2007 & 2008 First Place National Affiliate Communications Editor by PPA.

Karen started her career shortly after achieving a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Cal State University Long Beach. Striving to give her clients lasting memories to be enjoyed for a lifetime, many clients have stayed with her since she began her business in 1992.

She has received multiple awards for her photographic artistry including the Canon Par Excellence Award, 2011 PPA Silver Medalist, 2012 PPA Bronze Medalist, 2011-2012 PPC Top Ten Photographer, 2011 PPC Photographer of the Year Nature, PPLAC Photographer of the Year Award 2009, and WPPI Accolades of Excellence Awards.

Volunteering for organizations like PPC and your local affiliate will help your business grow and better your photographic skills. Everything I have, the awards and a busy business, wouldn’t be possible without the friends that I’ve made through volunteering, the opportunities I’ve been given and the education that PPC and PPLAC has provided.

Knowing that Professional Photographers of California would be a good resource for the quick education she would need, she immediately joined PPC and got involved. After nearly 2 years of active volunteerism with PPC she has had constant access to professionals who have acted as her mentors and have helped her keep the family business going strong. Michael Sauer

California Sunday Chair

casunday@ppconline.com
Phone: (530) 276-8404
Michael started his photographic career in 1996 at the prompting of friends and family who could see that his heart was in both capturing sights from around the world and experiencing the thrill of helping others learn to see their world in a new ‘light’. Michael has found that a lifetime is an exceedingly short period of time to fit in all the wonderful hobbies – and eventually the careers – that he has come to enjoy. Channeling an OCD’esque personality, he has found himself involved in occupations requiring detail and a high degree of accuracy, from certifying diamonds to running an accounting business. However, his passion changed from office-based businesses to the creative and traveling career of professional photography. Michael began shooting wildlife, scenic and fine art images, studying with leading outdoor photographers Galen Rowell, Art Wolfe, Franz Lanting and George Lepp. Michael has since expanded his business to incorporate portrait and commercial photography, and once again surrounds himself with the best in the business at the state and national levels. Raised in a loving family environment and prompted at an early age to give back to the world that has provided him so many wonderful opportunities, Michael now finds himself serving on the board of the Professional Photographers of California – which he considers a great honor.
