Roger has been a member of the Professional Photographers of California for almost thirty years. He served on the PPC board for ten years and was President of PPC in 2004. He was also the Executive Administrator for PPC from 2005 to 2012.
Roger has received the Paul Kennedy medal for service to PPC in 1999 (the fore-runner to the Evans/Kingham medal), the PPC President’s Award in 2000, received the prestigious Professional Photographers of America “National Award” in 2001, was inducted into the PPC Hall of Fame in 2011 and received the “Carlos Lozano Mentor” award in 2013.
He has been chairman of the Bylaws, Nominating, Convention, Past Presidents and PPC image competition committees.
Roger is now retired but had a varied career in commercial photography for twenty-five years completing assignments for Aerial, Illustrative, Architectural, Industrial and Corporate photography. He is a CA State judge and has judged image competitions in USA, Mexico and S. Korea, as well as presenting workshops in those nations. Roger was also active in PPA’s Certification program, assisting in modernizing the exam papers and acting as a certification image judge for many years. He served on the Certification committee and then the Certification Commission.
Education is important to ALL photographers and PPC exists to serve that purpose for its members. As Joe Butts (one of my mentors) succinctly puts it, “If it wasn’t for PPC I would have never accomplished what I did in my loved profession of photography!”

Master Photographer, Karen Nakamura, is widely acclaimed for her signature style images of flowers. She is gifted with a unique take on them that evolves with each new blossom she shoots. Some of her inspiration and creativity comes from an adoration of orchids, which she tended to as a hobby.
Karen has earned the Professional Photographers of America’s Photographer of the Year award every year since she first entered International Photographic Competition back in 2010.
Professional Photographers of America honored Karen with its 2013 Diamond Photographer of the Year and 2014 Master Artist Diamond Photographer of the Year. Diamond Photographers of the Year had all four competition images accepted into the prestigious PPA Loan Collection. Karen has won the coveted 2012 Canon Par Excellence Award, representing the pinnacle of achievement at the Professional Photographers of America regional level. She is one of the first photographers to earn the California Masters Award. This year she has won double Silver Photographer of the Year at the International level. In 2016, Karen will be honored with the PPA Master Artist degree.
